Feedback on Video Clips: What understandings do you think is important for Blacks/African Americans to have in order to succeed in K-12? Beyond K-12?
Understanding who we are, where we come from, why we do what we do and who we can be as people of color is important to understanding our personal identity which is what leads us through life everyday. Identity is a powerful tool that defines an individual, which is critical to the growth and foundation of students, even more dire for Black/African American.
What would you have liked to learn more about?
Ways to introduce this material in a classroom.
The plants used by the Khoi San and their benefits to humans and animals.
What did you learn that you did not know before? b. What were you surprised by?
For one, I did not know the GullahGeechee was an official nation. I had heard about the program in Hawaii when I was researching for a paper, but I did not know about the community level involvement. The thoughts around how to do that in every single Black community in America is a big plan.

It was really interesting to hear that shea butter is used as a food source since it is typically only used here for body care products. I’ve only recently learned about iNaturalist and it is a really cool idea to use it to look up certain species to find out where they have been seen.
